Holey Egg
Have you ever hard cooked a bunch of eggs and then tried peeling them with little success? Do they look like Edward Scissorhands was in the kitchen with you? I feel your pain. Here’s a great way to keep them fun for kids, even when they look mangled… introducing the Holey Egg!
GROCERY LIST
Eggs
Stainless steel straw
* I’ve tried making these with other utensils, but they don’t work. Make sure to thoroughly clean out the straw after using it for these eggs.
ASSEMBLING FOR THE LUNCHBOX
Boil the eggs to your liking. For us, that means adding eggs to boiling water, turning the heat down slightly and setting a timer for 8 minutes. Once the timer goes off, I run cold water over the eggs to cool them slightly. When they’re cool enough to peel, take the shell off.
Insert a stainless steel straw into the white part of the egg and press it until you reach the yolk. Then pull back the straw to remove the bit of egg white that was inside. If the pieces get stuck, you can always use your mouth to blow the pieces out. Repeat this process all over the egg until you get something that’s intentionally holey and fun. This is a great trick for a Halloween lunchbox!
PACKING THE LUNCHBOX
Packing the lunchbox with a Holey Egg couldn’t be easier... just place it in the lunchbox! Store unpeeled eggs in the refrigerator for up to 5 days.
